Birds' protection during the transport is a known problem. Different solutions are available, like the use of a tarp for the trailer or for each single module. Both methods have drawbacks linked to reduced flexibility and cleaning. In 2009 Meyn Italy s.r.l. designed an easy drawer solution, later patented (EP 2 456 299 B1).

Each drawer has one solid (or closed side). In winter, or when a cold temperature is expected, each drawer is placed in the module in order to have its closed side on the outer side of the truck. In this way, birds are protected from bad weather or low temperatures, while still having a correct ventilation, guaranteed by the vertical gaps between two drawers.

In summer, the same drawers are rotated by 180°: the closed side is now inside the truck and the birds can have maximum ventilation.

The main advantage of this system is in Spring and Autumn. In these seasons, early in the day, the “winter” configuration may be needed, while the “summer” confi guration may be required during the central hours of the day. Depending upon the weather situation at the moment the empty modules are preparared on the line, it can be decided wheather to set the closed side on the outer of the module, or inside it. Both Meyn Maxiload® STD and Meyn Maxiload® Twin drawers can be available with the summer/winter solution.

SUMMER CONFIGURATION

Module with Drawers in summer configuration

In the summer configuration, each drawer has the closed part inside the truck. Maximum ventilation in warm temperatures is now guaranteed.

WINTER CONFIGURATION

Module with Drawers in Winter Configuration

In the winter configuration, drawers are oriented in order to minimise ventilation and therefore to protect birds during the transport in cold temperatures. The gap between two drawers guarantees the correct air renewal for the birds.
